Conflicts between the Minorities
There has been ethnic conflict in Birmingham, Britain is between the Asians and the African ethnicities. The reason that the ethnicities have been at odds is believed to be a division between races but the rumors of an African woman being raped by three Asian men broke the peace. Maxie Hayles (Birmingham race campaigner) believes that there is an apartheid situation where the white ethnicites that are white are on top, the Asian ethnicity is in the middle, and the African ethnicity is at the bottom. The Africans believe that the immigrants from Asia are taking jobs from them. The result of this conflict is tension between ethnicities and plans to help alleviate the tension between the two. Mr. Hayles believes in creating more equality between the two.
Ireland and northern ireland on break
During the thirty year conflict in Northern Ireland and Ireland there was a lot of death and tension between the groups because of religious intolerance. The Catholics majority which was in Ireland wanted the Protestant majority which was in Northern Ireland to remain with Ireland instead of staying with the U.K. The Catholics view their side of the conflict as fighting to unite the two parts of Ireland or to retain Catholic equality. The Protestants view it as keeping Northern Ireland with the United Kingdom. Part of the conflict that was between the two religions was in Northern Ireland. From 1921-1960s Northern Ireland was in the political and social control of the Protestants which angered the Catholic minority that lived there. This initiated the ethnic conflict between the Catholics and Protestants in Northern Ireland for the next three decades. There was terrorism, violence, and teetering peace between the two during this period. In 1998 the peace became permanent and resulted in the negotiation of making catholic/protestant institutions, joint custody for both communities, and a equal government.
